Late in December 2020, the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021 became law. The Act includes funding for colleges and universities to distribute to students in ways similar to the CARES Act, using the structure provided by the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF). As a result, UNC Greensboro will be awarding aid to students totaling approximately $9 million dollars.
At present we are working as quickly as possible with UNC System, state, and federal officials to make sure we are acting in accordance with all of the relevant policy provisions. This process will take some time, and very likely will not be completed before the Spring 2021 term begins. As soon as we have received the necessary guidance, however, we will be able to inform the campus community of our expected timelines for making awards. As with the CARES Act awards, we will post eligibility and other information on our COVID-19 update site.
We know the CARES Act funding we distributed in late spring and summer made a difference for many students, and we will do our best to get these new stimulus dollars out as quickly and fairly as possible.
