Dear UNCG Community,
On May 5, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper announced that our state will move into Phase 1 of the COVID-19 recovery plan beginning on Friday, May 8, at 5 p.m. The state will be in Phase 1 through May 22, and this phase could be extended depending on state analysis of key public health data and trends across our communities.
This shift means that while the statewide “stay at home” order remains in place, certain restrictions will be modified or reduced to allow for more commercial activity – some businesses will be allowed to reopen, as will more parks and trails, and more movement previously deemed “non-essential” will be allowed. Details on the order, an easy chart to help you understand the changes, and a Q&A are all available at our UNCG COVID-19 website.
For UNCG, the move into Phase 1 has no significant impact on our operations. Employees should continue working remotely as in our current operational status. All in-person events remain cancelled or postponed. We will continue to strictly limit the number of faculty and staff who are on campus to prevent the potential spread of COVID-19. Only operations that are considered essential should continue on campus, and only employees who have been directed by their supervisors as necessary to support these operations should report to campus. We will continue to make the health and safety of our entire community our top consideration in all operational decision-making.
We will provide further detail in terms of HR implications, time management, etc., as it becomes available, and we will continue to keep you updated on critical state, UNC System, and UNCG-specific strategic and operational changes as we move forward.
