Covid-19 Updates

The latest from UNC Greensboro

Welcome Back, Spartans!

As the excitement of a new academic year begins, we want to be sure that we proceed with the well-being of all in mind. As you know, our UNCG community extends beyond the physical boundaries of campus. Not only must we exercise care for our fellow Spartans, but also our neighbors with whom we share space in the local community. In that spirit, we want to provide you with our expectations for off-campus activity.

The primary way COVID-19 spreads is through person-to-person contact, so our best hope of preventing its spread is by changing the way we behave. Your behavior off campus not only directly impacts the health and safety of our community on campus, including other students, faculty, and staff, but also impacts neighbors in our Greensboro community. While we can enforce our community standards in the classroom and in campus facilities, your role in maintaining behavior that protects you and others when you are in off-campus locations is crucial. How you represent yourself and demonstrate our culture of care in the larger community matters greatly. What you do can affect a great number of people.

For your safety and for that of others, you are expected to wear face coverings in public, practice good hand hygiene and social distancing – both on and off campus – and limit the size of both indoor and outdoor gatherings. Current state guidance limits indoor activities to 10 people and outdoor activities to 25 people. Face coverings and social distancing of at least six feet is required at all times by the City of Greensboro and the State of North Carolina at all gatherings. We must be responsible in all spaces, and expect the same from our neighbors. It is essential that our students take this seriously. Ignoring these guidelines has consequences. Violations of the Governor’s orders around large gatherings are criminal offenses and subject to disciplinary action under the Student Code of Conduct, and directly jeopardize the safety of our community and our ability to operate.

Off-campus students should refrain from hosting gatherings that violate the state order, and all students should avoid situations that increase the risk of exposure. If you are concerned about a potentially unsafe gathering taking place, please submit a Report Concerning Behavior form.

We continue to use the UNCG Student Code of Conduct as our guide and within it, the University’s five core values of Honesty, Trust, Fairness, Respect, and Responsibility. These values ring as true now as they ever have, as we must exercise care for one another and mind those around us. If you face any challenges or need assistance or clarification, please do not hesitate to contact the Dean of Students Office. Please visit the UNCG COVID Updates site for more information about campus expectations, FAQs, and the Shield our Spartans campaign.

We’re UNCG Spartans – determined, resilient and caring. Let’s act in each other’s best interests.

We’re glad to have you back!
